Heart Chakra

In my studies, I haven’t gotten to the heart chakra yet (I’m working my way up from the bottom–pun intended), but it is good to preview upcoming chakras on other blogs. In the education field, we call this frontloading.

Q: What type of Chakra Crystal should I use for my heart?

th (8)

A: Rose quartz is believed to be a very suitable stone to use for metaphysical work, even for people who are overly sensitive to crystal energy. The main quality of rose quartz is  to be directed towards the Heart Chakra, as its pink color is thought perfectly suited for energy work related to emotional issues.

The energy of rose quartz is considered to be very soothing and gentle, making it the ideal crystal for “heart work”. Carrying a chunk of rose quartz in your pocket or sleeping with a piece under your pillow is thought to help you attune to the energy of love; be it love for oneself, or love for others.Rose quartz is considered a “physical rejuvenation crystal” because when the heart grows healthier, so will the rest of the body, and the heart is the…

What exactly are chakras and what do they look like?

What exactly are chakras and what do they look like?

Chakras are our energy centers. They are the openings for life energy to flow into and out of our aura. Their function is to vitalize the physical body and to bring about the development of our self-consciousness. They are associated with our physical, mental and emotional interactions.
Chakras have been depicted as a funnel of sorts with smaller funnels within the funnel. They are also often referred to as looking like lotus flowers. I have intuitively viewed the intake of individual chakras as appearing similar to the blades of a fan or windmill in circular motion. (taken from about.com)

Coming up this weekend: the Sacral Chakra

The next Chakra I will be studying is the sacral chakra.  I plan to go in order from the root chakra on up.  However, I am back to work this week, so my goal is a new chakra (maybe two) each weekend.  This coming weekend I plan on going in depth with the sacral chakra.  In the meantime, I found a great site that briefly explains each of the first seven chakras.  If my pace isn’t fast enough to keep up with your curiosity, I will share any awesome chakra sites I find.  Check this one out: http://thirdeyeactivation.com/2012/03/easy-to-understand-chakras-and-descriptions/

We will revisit the root chakra on a regular basis, since it is imperative that this chakra stay balanced in order to keep all of the other chakras working properly. I am including a video below for more information on balancing your root chakra from a Chakra expert.

Balancing Your Root Chakra (part 1)

The root chakra is our connection to the Earth.  It keeps us grounded, connected to the rest of humanity, and feeling safe and secure.  When it is not functioning properly, these emotions are out of whack.  The best way to balance this chakra is to reconnect our body, mind, and spirit with the Earth.

Reconnecting with the Earth can be as easy as hugging a tree (literally), walking barefoot through some soft grass (smelling freshly cut grass will provide an extra boost), and wearing the color red.  If you fall under “excessive” root chakra status, wear green.

Just simply spending time outdoors helps to balance your root chakra.  Play sports, feel the ground on your bare feet, work in your garden, and say to yourself, “I am fully grounded and supported by the Earth.”

Eating more protein and root vegetables, like carrots, is also helpful.  Even when eating French fries, remember the potato it came from.  Potatoes grow in the Earth.  We are supported in every way by the Earth if you think about it.  Feel Mother Earth holding you with her gravity.  She keeps you grounded, fed, and every part of your physical body is made of elements from this amazing planet.

Listening to Native American Drum music is a great way to connect also.  I will include some links to drum music that helps me.  Let your ears help you.  Let your nose help you too.  If you like incense, or candles, burn some cinnamon, sandalwood, cedarwood, myrrh or patchouli.

Ginger is a root herb.  Drink some ginger tea.  Try out some yoga poses.  The foot and leg stretches, core lifts, forward fold, locust, child pose, and simply lying on the floor or ground face down are great ways to encourage a balanced root chakra.

Here are some affirmations you will want to repeat as often as possible:

*I am an innocent person.  *I am disciplined.  *I am safe.  *I accept abundant good health as my natural state.  *I love my body.  *the Universe is a safe place for me.  *I am real.  *I have enough, I know enough, I AM enough.  *I am connected to the Earth and all of humanity.

There is more to be said about balancing the root chakra.  I will continue in the next post.  In the meantime, look for my link to Native American drum music, and help me get a good conversation going.  Namaste!

Your Root Chakra

The most important part of a house is the foundation, or so goes the cliche. The “foundation” of your body’s energy system is your root chakra (also called the ‘base chakra’). It is the energy wheel that emanates from the very bottom of your torso, at the tail of your spinal column. This chakra connects us to the energies of Earth. When this chakra is out of alignment, it affects the rest of our energy system in a big way.

First I want to describe what an imbalanced root chakra looks like, then (in my next post) tell you exactly how to get it back in balance.

A deficient root chakra is letting go of too much energy. You may feel fearful, anxious, or spaced out. Perhaps your life lacks discipline or you are restless. These are signs of a deficient root chakra.

An overactive, or excessive, root chakra is taking in too much energy but not letting enough out. Like having COPD, where you cannot exhale enough to make room for the fresh oxygen to come in. An excessive root chakra leaves you feeling sluggish and heavy. You may struggle with hoarding food or other material things. Do people think you are greedy? Are you a workaholic? You may suffer from an excessive root chakra.

There are a few illnesses associated with an imbalanced root chakra. Constipation, cold hands and feet, diarrhea, urinary tract infections, and kidney stones, are just a few.

Once we balance the root chakra, our whole system will start to heal. Balancing any other chakra before taking care of root chakra problems is a waste of time. In my next post I will list all of the tips I have learned for getting your root chakra back into alignment. Please feel free to comment. All opinions are valued.

What are the chakras?

We are living beings, and since life is energy, we are energy.  Our body has a complex nervous system, a circulatory system, and a respiratory system, but what do we call the system of energy that moves in and around us?  That is the chakra system.  It is through the chakra system that our bodies interact with the electromagnetic energies on our planet and just like our lungs take in air from (and exhale air into) the atmosphere, our chakras take in energy and let out energy.  I am just now figuring out this WordPress site, so thank you for being patient, but I want to dig deep to learn all we can about the chakras.  Please add anything and everything you know to the discussion.  I want to build up positive, collective energy within this blog with a vibrant discussion.  Here we go!
